Repair rolling truck components, fabricate, cut and perform rough finish operations on metal and wood replacements parts, fasten and assemble car parts by riveting, bolting, welding, and other methods, remove and replace defective components on truck shoes, coupler assemblies, air brake system, troubleshoot and problem solve issues, and work with shop machines, tools and equipment.
set up and operate horizontal band saw to cut metal stock to dimensions.
• Read job order for specifications such as material, type, size of stock and dimensions to be cut.
• Obtain and transfer stock to machine manually, with hoist, or with a forklift.
• Installs saw blade and sets blade tension and cutting speed for specified operation.
• Set saw blade angle to obtain desired angle cuts, using wrench.
• Set stops and guides to control dimension of cut, suing steel rule and wrenches.
• Position and secure stock against stops or in feeding device.
• Turn valve to start flow of coolant against cutting areas.
• Start machine and observe operation.
• Measure work for conformance to specifications, using rule.
• Mark identifying data on workpiece.
• Replace defective cutting blade or wheel, using hand tools.
• Store metal deliveries.
• Required to keep area clean and organized.
• Other responsibilities and duties may be included as required.
