My name is Richard Crossley I have been in the drug in alcohol recovery community for the past 15 years. Both as an addict struggling with addiction and treatment, and now as a student pursuing a degree to utilize my knowledge and experience to help others as a counselor.
I have built up significant clean time that has allowed me to help others. Right now i am taking classes to obtain my LADC and a degree in psychology to eventually be able to help with duel diagnosis patients. I want to give back because i was once struggling with my mental health that affected my ability to stay clean.
Right now I live at a mens residential program called North Cottage. Now im in the position as a driver for the outside meetings we attend. I help people to get connected to the program and help them get involved in there recovery.
I am actively working the steps in AA and NA so I can sponsor people in both programs. Recovery isn't just simply getting sober the rewards of working on myself have helped spiritually and physically. I have always wanted to work in this field of mental health and substance abuse counseling because I have seen so many of my friends lose there life to the disease. I want to put all my efforts into just helping those struggling if i can help anybody it will all be worth it.
At my last sober house I ran our units drug testing and also implemented the rules and did intakes.
In my home group in NA i represented our group in "area" were we discuss the principles and rules of NA as a whole.
Helped in the kitchen and tried to get people connected to meetings and services
