I started in Emergency management in 1993 when I finished school as a Paramedic and earned my state certification. In 1997 I was hired as a firefighter with The City of Jacksonville and worked for 25yrs until retirement. I was promoted to LT. in 2005 after that I would supervise 3-5 personnel on a daily basis.
I started my beekeeping business in 2009 and have gradually built it to around 500 hives. Obviously up and down some depeding on the season. I make every beekeeping decision myself. I do have some part time help from family members but, I have never had any paid employees.
I started beekeeping in 2009 with 4 hives and have built up to 400 to 600 over the years. I do everything myself from raising queens to extracting honey. I do have occasional help from family members but, I make all the beekeeping decisions. I have sent hives to California for almond pollination and North Dakota for honey crop share. I am hands on with every aspect of the beekeeping business.
Between running a beekeeping business and being a Fire/ Lieutenant I have learned how to communicate even when the current situation may not be an easy topic Fire fighting a being an apiary inspector have a lot in common when it comes to dealing with the public I have learned a lot by building a beekeeping business from scratch
