Solid Waste and Recycling Supervisor

  • During year round weather conditions and possible difficult/dangerous conditions, I Supervisor drivers and laborers to ensure proper collection and disposal of solid waste, bulky materials, refuse and recyclable materials.
  • Consult with DPW Superintendent with recommendations and improvements to work policies and procedures. Make operational adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to read maps and follow refuse and recycling routes.
  • Independently manage, plan, organize, schedule and prioritize assignments while enforcing safety and zoning regulations, standards and procedures.
  • Supervisor transfer station. Monitors incoming/outgoing solid/bulky waste, leaf disposal, electronics, tires and construction debris.
  • Enter, retrieve and present quarterly statistical transfer station reports and information to the State of Connecticut.
  • Prepare and maintain records of work activities, including collection routes, crew assignments, residential complaints or inquiries.
  • Maintain and monitor personnel files, including attendance, promotion and discipline history for employees. Address discipline issues and take appropriate corrective action, as necessary. Attend pre-discipline (Loudermill) hearings.
  • Train and develop safety protocols for employees, including refuse/recycling programs, alternative disposal methods, facilities planning and public education materials.
  • File monthly and annual reports as needed with Town, State and Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee inspection and maintenance of the department's vehicles and equipment records. Schedule and oversee vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Attend meetings with intergovernmental organizations and citizen groups regarding solid waste and recycle collection and disposal system planning, management and operation.
