I started my career at the sheriff's office on November 12, 2013. I worked in the detention center for approximately four years then went to patrol. While working in the detention center, I learned how the detention center was supposed to be ran. I realized just how important it is to have good management while working there. We went through several lieutenants while I worked over there and I seen how important it is to have two lieutenants that can work cohesively together as well. After getting pulled for patrol, I would still occasionally help out in the detention center. At one point, I was put on light duty and I was made to supervise a shift while working nights. I believe y'all put me in that roll because y'all know what I am doing and I do every job to the best of my ability. During that time when I first started, the inmates in lock down pods were sleeping in the day room after lights out, and lockdown wasn't even done. I did lockdown with a jailer the next night and it took us over one hour to do lockdown. By the third night, lockdown was being completed within 30 minutes. The inmates knew they were not allowed to sleep in the day room after lights out and went to their cells before I even got to the pod. I showed the jailer how to properly make sure all of the doors are secure and how to do a proper security check while doing lock down. I believe the detention center needs a strong leader that is going to work well with the employees as well with the inmates. I still get asked to help train new jailers due to my knowledge and proficiency with the job.
