Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducting vehicle, foot, bicycle, boat, and UTV patrol to ensure the safety of all persons within the boundaries of the National Park system
  • Protecting the resources of the National Park system through the detection, investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of individuals suspected or convicted of violating provisions of applicable laws, rules, and regulations enacted to ensure the protection and safe use of the National Park system through enforcement of the criminal laws of the United States
  • Educating visitors about the significance of our park’s resources and history
  • Informing visitors about resource conservation, park rules, laws, regulations, and policies
  • Proactive law enforcement efforts aimed at reducing illegal and unsafe activities
  • Overseeing and ensuring compliance of commercial activities within the parks so as to inhibit the degradation of park resources
  • Responding to calls for service from the public, visitors, employees, and several Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies
  • Responding to requests for emergency medical services and mental health emergencies to provide appropriate first aid as necessary
  • Writing reports for Violation Notices given and utilizing IMARS to record any actions taken while on duty such as incident reports, vehicle inventory reports, use of force reports, supplemental reports, impound reports, and any general reports
  • Utilizing email to effectively communicate with coworkers about incidents that happened in previous shifts and conducting administrative tasks


Collateral Duties:

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

  • Served on the Suicide Prevention Safety Stand Down advisory council (Letter of Appreciation attached)
  • Mitigate the impact of an event, accelerate the recovery process, and assess the need for additional or alternative services
  • Provide support to assist the recovery of individuals experiencing distress following exposure to abnormal
    events
  • Empower NPS employees to build positive help seeking behaviors through increased knowledge of available support systems the park has put in place
  • Reduce the stigma associated with mental health difficulties including but not limited to depression, anxiety,self-harm, a suicidal and homicidal ideation.
  • Complete multiple deployments for CISM to include visitor suicide, employee death, and disaster relief related incidents

Law Enforcement Peer Support Specialist

  • Provide support to assist the recovery of NPS Law Enforcement experiencing distress following exposure to abnormal incidents/events.
  • Help NPS LE employees recognize negative stress reactions to critical incidents and the chronic stressors of the job and help facilitate the use of positive coping skills to counteract the negative behaviors.
  • Empower NPS employees to build positive help seeking behaviors through increased knowledge of available support systems the park has put in place
  • Completed multiple deployments for OIS and employee fatality.

Planning Section Chief - USS Nantucket

  • Develop, Implement, and distribute daily IAP for 18 day long event
  • Work alongside four partners (US Navy - USS Constitution, US Navy - USS, Commissioning Support Team, Commissioning Committee) to develop a plan for the Commissioning (1700 invited guests) of the newest floating Littoral Combat Ship.
  • Oversaw and planned for 15 NPS details to assist with the 18 day docking.
  • Assisted in constructing a Scope of Work to provide to Navy Logistics. This document then turned into the driving document to enable NPB to ask for $250,000 in cost recovery through a MIPR (military interdepartmental purchase request)
  • Met weekly with the superintendents office to keep them informed on the plans for the commissioning and created presentations and documents to achieve this.

Public Safety Telecommunications - Dispatcher

  • Operate and monitor law enforcement radio equipment including telephones, computers, two-way radios, CCTV camera systems, ADEMCO, and other related equipment
  • Utilize the use of computer aided dispatch systems (CAD), CJIS criminal background check system, as well as the OPENFOX law enforcement database
  • Monitor the location and status of federal law enforcement officers in the field via radio for officer safety
  • Dispatch federal law enforcement officers from Boston National Historical Park, Minute Man National Historical Park, Lowell National Historical Park, and Cape Cod National Seashore to various calls for service

  • Responded to emergency STAT13 calls when patients were in high distress situations either hurting themselves or violently hurting other patients or staff members
  • During emergency STAT13 calls, implemented de-escalation skills to defuse combative patients leading them from physical restraints, to integrating them into the community, to their discharge
  • Consistently worked with patients who were mentally unstable and/or under the influence and often detoxing from controlled substances such as Phencyclohexyl Piperidine (PCP), heroin, cocaine, cannabis, and methamphetamines
  • Worked daily in situations that were volatile and confrontational in an inpatient hospital environment where patients either self identified themselves as a high risk to have homicidal ideation/suicidal ideation or were court committed to receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment
  • Utilized my training and experience to effectively de-escalate dangerous situations verbally and physically through completion of Appropriate Response Training (ART)
  • Independently maintained a24 patient case load on an inpatient psychiatric hospital which included, assessments, discharges, and weekly progress notes

  • These interviews and reports are key documents used in mental health court to involuntarily commit patients to the hospital
