My current research project is being advised by Dr. MacPherson. Observing two different wildlife sites, Kibbe wildlife research center and Wigwam Hollow, for different abundance of bird species. We are then comparing this to the amount of precipitation measured for that week to determine which species have a wetter niche. Analyzing our observations against historical data from Ebird.org to identify patterns in bird species abundance relative to precipitation levels.
Worked with Dr. Livingston and started a research project on water quality in a small body of water names Lake Ruth. Lake Ruth is a temporary home to several animal and plant species. Many of these organisms can be severely affected by the access of heavy metal contaminants in their habitat. The study would have continued previous research to assess the concentration of these trace metals, nitrogen, and phosphorus present in the water of the lake. Unfortunately, the research was stopped due to Dr. Livingston's departure from the university.
Worked in the reptile house introducing some reptiles to guests. Educating guests about the reptile and how to properly interact with the animal. Worked in enrichment for some animals in the back area of the zoo and worked with other volunteers learning about how to properly handle these animals.
