Environmental Education Intern

  • As an Environmental Education Intern, my role included feeding and caring for different aquatic animals such as seahorses, terrapins, and horseshoe crabs
  • I provided education to visitors about the animals and offered ways in which people can personally help to conserve the animals and the marine environments in which they live
  • I also worked with students in the facility’s classroom setting to assist with awareness and education activities such as animal dissections
  • Further, I help facilitate education and understanding through field trips to schools for various goals, such as teaching about Tampa Bay Watch and the organization's mission.

  • Applied and was selected to the USFSP Innovation Scholars program to work with a mentor from Tampa Bay Watch on various environmental restoration projects such as Oyster Reef Ball construction and Oyster Shell Bag placements
  • Through meeting with and working alongside the mentor I was able to learn about the native species of Tampa Bay and the importance of implementing living shorelines.

  • My duties included receiving, compiling and packaging online and over-the-phone orders, as well as helping with table service during slower to-go times

  • Skills acquired included learning to better communicate with various types of customers and co-workers, including how to quickly fix any mistakes
  • Other skills I learned were the ability to multitask when needed and to keep calm during busy, demanding periods.
