My name is Riley Martin, and I am focusing my education on nursing. I am determined, hardworking, respectful, and compassionate. I have wanted to be nurse since I was young, and I am determined to do well in your program. I want to be able to make a positive impact on patients’ lives and learn everything I can to reach my goal in becoming a pediatric nurse. I have had the opportunity to work in healthcare as a Pharmacy Technician. I learned a variety of qualities and skills such as: making a patient feel comfortable with their medication, showing compassion for the patient, and learning what each medication is used for and their risks. I have also had the opportunity to work at a gym. I have been working at the gym for two and a half years now and I have learned a lot about the body. I learned how the muscles work and I have even learned about physical therapy from many members in the gym. In high school, I worked at a veterinary clinic. I learned how to treat patients and their family members, and I worked hard to make sure the patients were comfortable and satisfied. I have learned many skills from my experiences and plan on using them in school and my future career. I have also had opportunities to work as a volunteer in my local community. I was a junior chairman in a volunteer group called Divas for a Cure. In this group, we constantly raised money for our local animal rescue, Fayette County Animal Rescue. We would hold bake sales and other events to raise money for the facility. Not only did I get to raise money, I also got to help clean up the facility and bond with the many dogs that were there at the time. Another group I joined was Love Girls Magazine. Their magazine is based in Memphis, TN, and their vision is to help create a safe space for girls around the country. I was honored to do a column in one of their issues. I was also able to be a part of many other issues in the Magazine for over 6 years. Furthermore, I helped my community by fostering many stray dogs for over 2 years. My family and I took in over 300 to 400 dogs during that time. Our mission was to help as many dogs get into a good rescue or into a loving family instead of having them euthanized because our local Animal Control did not have a big enough facility and could only carry 8 dogs at a time. I have really enjoyed all my hard work and dedication during my volunteer time and would really love to bring that into my career as a nurse. Thank you so much for your time and I am really looking forward to hearing back from you.
