  • As the electronics shop supervisor, I directed the day-to-day work operations of the Electronics Shop to include short and long-range plans, deadlines and priorities set by the Chief of Maintenance and Operations. I reviewed our critical inventory, wrote, and revised SOPs for equipment operation and preventative maintenance, overseeing contracts from start to finish. In addition, I ensured that we maintained JHACO and AQMD compliance with our generators, task and emergency lighting, and with the fire alarm testing and maintenance. During my time as supervisor, I managed the employee’s time and leave, arranged for overtime, and provided them with a successful environment to promote their individual strengths while helping to build on their weaknesses. I assigned work to the technicians; explaining what is required and what procedures to use. I determined staffing, material, and equipment requirements, and submitted these requests for material and equipment as needed. I reviewed work in progress and inspected completed work to ensure that appropriate standards of quality and quantity were met. I provided advice to the technicians to aid in solving their more complicated issues. I used multi-meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, RF power meters, automated test equipment and other types of testing and diagnostic tools to repair this equipment and radios down to the component level. When required I arranged for service by outside contractors and developed the scope and specifications for those services. Monitoring contractor work in progress and inspected completed work to ensure that it meets contract specifications and complied with all applicable codes and standards. I also kept the Administrative COTR and Contracting Officer informed of any major developments or problems. I also kept an open dialog with the higher-level management concerning the workload of the unit, status of work in progress, and the problems and needs of the unit. I also supported the engineering construction program by reviewing and providing input on design drawings/specifications, participating in periodic and final job site inspections, and offer recommendations for correcting cited deficiencies.

The paramount duties focused on the overall evaluation, development, and management of preventive maintenance programs. Includes prioritizing, time management, and consistency of repairs in compliance with The Joint Commission standards and the development of plans and practices to effectively manage and prioritize workload to minimize backlogs. Plans must meet effective use of staff and monetary resources, including ways of effectively addressing staffing and systems capacities to meet the growing needs of the medical center, such as modernizing utility systems and managing energy efficient plant operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Maintenance and Operations Chief has responsibility for the maintenance and operations of buildings, structures, equipment and services (i.e., new facilities, modifications to facilities, maintenance and repair functions, new equipment installation, utility systems maintenance, operations and maintenance of a fleet of Government vehicles, and development and evaluation of proposals for replacement of facilities and equipment) which are based in whole or in part on maintenance or utility savings. The position serves as M&O Senior engineer consisting of the overseeing M&O section projects; provides oversight for Maintenance Sustainment Unit contracts to ensure the contractor is in compliance with all contractual requirements, healthcare regulations and codes, specifications, and schedules are met in accordance with the government’s requirements for VA owned and leased facilities. The Chief, Maintenance and Operations, in collaboration with other Engineering Section Chiefs, is responsible for assisting the Facility Chief Engineer in directing a comprehensive Engineering Service plan to support the medical facility.
