Job Summary:

The Brazing Technician is responsible for bonding carbide or other cutting materials to steel drill bit bodies using the brazing process. This role ensures strong, heat-resistant joints that enhance the durability and performance of the drill bits. The technician operates brazing equipment, inspects joints, and follows precise heating and cooling procedures.


Key Responsibilities:


Brazing Operations-


  • Use torches, induction heating, or furnace brazing to heat materials and bond them with silver, copper, or nickel-based brazing alloys.
  • Control heating and cooling cycles to prevent material warping or weak joints.

Quality Inspection-


  • Ensure brazed joints meet strength and durability standards.
  • Use microscopes, calipers, and hardness testers to check joint integrity.
  • Remove excess brazing material and perform finishing work like grinding or polishing.

Machine Operation & Maintenance-


  • Operate and adjust brazing equipment for precise heat application.
  • Perform routine maintenance on torches, induction heating coils, and furnaces.

Safety & Compliance-


  • Follow safety protocols for working with high temperatures and molten metal.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including heat-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
  • Handle and store brazing materials and fluxes according to safety regulations.


Grinding & Fluting-


  • I used a CNC grinding machine to create the flutes (spiral grooves) that help remove material while drilling.
