  • During my training I was required to work in the field for a month before I began training for the position of Mortuary Office Specialist. In that time I would carry out several duties including ; Carrying out the removal of a decedent, gathering forms for us to bring the decedent into our care, advising the families on the next steps moving forward, and once the decedent is in our care at Rose Hills it was my job to weigh, measure and complete the intake of the decedent. Since I am also going to school for Mortuary Science I was also allowed to assist Lead Embalmers in preparing several decedents for their funerals.
  • Answered and directed incoming calls to appropriate personnel and departments.
  • Organized office files, records, and documents. I also developed spreadsheets, faxed reports and scanned documents to in order to improve workflow.
  • Maintained an organized filing system for all business documents including contracts, legal forms, correspondence.
  • Creating reports of recently passed decedents for a supervisor review on a weekly basis.
  • Scheduled meetings and conference calls for Funeral Arrangers to assist the family for preparation of burial as requested.
  • Monitored calendars and scheduled appointments based on availability of the Arrangers.
  • Proofread and recording reports of decedents into HMIS software that is specifically catered for funeral home use and has records of every decedent at Rose Hills.
  • Gathered Medical information of the decedent, by contacting the hospital and collecting legal documents from the physician and the families.
  • Opened, sorted and routed incoming death certificates from the state and prepared them using a program called STAMPS which we would then send the certificates by mail using this software.
