• Partial Extension of Taxiway Z, Detroit, MI

• Kimley-Horn provided planning, design, and construction phase support for the construction of a new centralized deicing facility (CDF) and a new runway hold bay at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County International Airport (DTW). The CDF includes deicing positions for seven ADG III aircraft with the option of one ADG V aircraft deicing spot. The facility also includes a new taxi lane, 11 overnight parking spots for aircraft, lighting, and associated ancillary facilities to support the deicing operations. The Runway 21R Hold Bay will provide needed standing space for two ADG III or one ADG V aircraft and a reconstructed ADG V taxi lane for one of the Airport’s fixed-base operators (FBOs). Infrastructure is included with the CDF to capture high concentrate glycol run-off from deicing activities for off-site reprocessing.

• Professional Engineering and Related Services for Airfield Projects at Detroit Metro and Willow Run, Detroit, MI

• Kimley-Horn developed construction documents to rehabilitate the existing PCC apron pavement for Gates A4-A72. We performed pavement analysis to determine the limits of rehabilitation, survey, pavement analysis and pavement design, specialized demolition, geometrics, drainage modifications, modifications to the hydrant fueling system, pavement markings, construction safety and phasing, and stakeholder. To minimize impacts to Delta’s schedule, the project was sequenced where only two widebody or three narrow body gates could be taken out of service at a time. Each gate took approximately 45 days to complete. This work was done over a 3-year period from 2015-2017.
• Responsibilities: Bob was responsible for leading pre-construction conferences, conducting weekly construction meetings, answering requests for information (RFI’s), tracking quantities, processing progress payments, developing close-out documents, managing the on-site field staff, ensuring all daily and weekly reports are completed, managing quality assurance testing, reviewing material tests, and managing survey requests.
• McNamara Terminal A Apron Rehabilitation (Gates A4-A72), Detroit, MI

• McNamara Island Infill Project, Detroit, MI

• WCAA tasked Kimley-Horn to develop construction documents for the rehabilitation of the Runway 21R deicing pad as part of an overall project that included surface and safety upgrades to Runway 3L/21R. As part of the project, Kimley-Horn was tasked with developing different rehabilitation alternatives from asphalt mill & overlay to full reconstruction in portland cement concrete pavement. Kimley-Horn completed an in-depth review of the existing deicing facility including pavement analysis and geotechnical; condition of the existing utilities including lighting, signage, and storm sewer system; and existing configurations. The rehabilitation included a 3” mill with a 5” asphalt overlay, reconfiguration of the deicing spots to meet current FAA standards, and additional guidance signs.

• Kimley-Horn is providing engineering, bid phase, and construction phase services for the McNamara Terminal apron reconstruction program at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. This is a multi-year, multiphase project that includes the reconstruction of the apron pavement around Concourses A, B, and C and reconstruction of the adjacent taxiways and taxi lanes. We performed pavement analysis to determine the limits of rehabilitation, survey, pavement analysis and pavement design, specialized demolition, geometrics, drainage modifications, modifications to the hydrant fueling system, pavement markings, construction safety and phasing, and stakeholder.
• Responsibilities: Bob is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities in the field, assigning field staff, tracking quantities, reviewing and processing progress payments, ensuring all daily and weekly reports are completed, managing quality assurance testing, reviewing material tests, and managing survey requests.

• Bob worked on this project for 4 consecutive winter construction seasons in NV. Project consisted of several large concrete drainage channels, box culverts storm sewer upgrades.
• Grading and Drainage Project, Boulder City NV

• $32,300,000.00/14-mile Heavy HWY re-construct project included, culverts, realignments, soil corrections, cattle pass, grading, managing borrow pits erosion control, and traffic control. Tracking quantities with the CARS system. In addition to being lead inspector, Bob was responsible for communicating with NDDOT and rural residents on construction activities, detours, and traffic control issues.

• This was a street reconstruction project. Bob was responsible for item record accounts, scheduled testing according to specifications, and monitored soil. Bob coordinated with project manager and hosted weekly communication meetings with residents.
