The CDF includes deicing positions for seven ADG III aircraft with the option of one ADG V aircraft deicing spot. The facility also includes a new taxi lane, 11 overnight parking spots for aircraft, lighting, and associated ancillary facilities to support the deicing operations. The Runway 21R Hold Bay will provide needed standing space for two ADG III or one ADG V aircraft and a reconstructed ADG V taxi lane for one of the Airport’s fixed-base operators (FBOs). Infrastructure is included with the CDF to capture high concentrate glycol run-off from deicing activities for off-site reprocessing.

To minimize impacts to Delta’s schedule, the project was sequenced where only two widebody or three narrow body gates could be taken out of service at a time. Each gate took approximately 45 days to complete. This work was done over a 3-year period from 2015-2017.

  • WCAA tasked Kimley-Horn to develop construction documents for the rehabilitation of the Runway 21R deicing pad as part of an overall project that included surface and safety upgrades to Runway 3L/21R. As part of the project, Kimley-Horn was tasked with developing different rehabilitation alternatives from asphalt mill & overlay to full reconstruction in portland cement concrete pavement. Kimley-Horn completed an in-depth review of the existing deicing facility including pavement analysis and geotechnical; condition of the existing utilities including lighting, signage, and storm sewer system; and existing configurations. The rehabilitation included a 3” mill with a 5” asphalt overlay, reconfiguration of the deicing spots to meet current FAA standards, and additional guidance signs.
