I worked at HomeGoods for two years as a Sales Associate where my job was to provide excellent customer experience by taking furniture to their car and answering any question they had regarding the store. The job taught me how to communicate with any individual no matter how they talked to me whether kind or disrespectful.
The youth group would visit the sick, those in nursing homes, and go around the community spreading flyers about different events we would have. We had events like a turkey drive, clothing drive, and gave away food to the Fifth Ward area community. I participated in these events while also helping out during the worship service by passing the communion tray to the congregation and sometime giving the opening prayer.
While in the organization I visited a numerous amount of elementary and middle schools in the Humble, Texas area to inform them about CTE classes and the importance of them.
This organization host events that often brought emphases to historical events important to the African American culture. For example we volunteered with the Alpha Kappa Alpha organization on Martin Luther King Day to pack canned goods. We also toured many HBCU's such as Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M.
The All Earth Ecobot Challenge is a competition including schools throughout Texas that includes the grades 5-8. This competition has students program and build LEGO robots to complete a numerous amount of task to obtain points. On practice days my job was to assist the students and give them hints on how they can make their program or robot better. On competition day I would judge if their robots completed a task and give them point while also making sure they don't perform any penalties.
The Discovery Youth Foundation is a summer enrichment program that gave students the opportunities to tour schools and learn about many different careers and how to become as successful as possible. They taught me business etiquette, how to create a resume and what employers look for in an interview.
I spent 15 hours at the Houston Food Bank packaging packaged goods in boxes for those who are homeless and those who were financially challenged.
This was my first job and my task was to make sandwiches and salad's for customers while also keeping a clean work environment.
Between 6th-8th grade my family attended Lake Houston Church of Christ while there I helped out during service by passing communion and offering trays throughout the congregation.
