I was a TA for my Junior year Biology professor, and I assisted him with his class every day during my 7th hour period instead of having another class or taking a prep period. I wanted to have more experience as I wasn't taking a science class that semester but since I have always loved science I knew I wanted to be an assistant for a science teacher to still get that experience. For the most part my work as a TA boiled down to grading students homework assignments and adding them to the teachers grading book. On certain days I would work on setting up or taking down labs and activities in the science classrooms for students. The main goal of my work as a TA was to make the job of my professor as smooth as possible and make their life easier.

Volunteering at Abbot Northwest involved a ton of hands on, personal interaction with visitors, including people coming in to visit family and friends, drop off gifts or flowers to be brought to patients, or there to register themselves in the hospital system. Most of the time my jobs consisted of leading guests to their specific destination (patient rooms, waiting areas, bathrooms, restaurants, etc.), or making sure certain supplies and services (hand sanitizer, wheelchairs, masks, tissues, etc.) were properly stocked. Often, I would have to show other newer volunteers where certain parts of the hospital were located so they could guide guests there. Helped to generally let the hospital run more smoothly and keep guests moving o their destination without having to wait. When interacting with guests at Abbot, a level of empathy and understanding is essential to providing quality customer interaction, as many people who come to the hospital are expectedly nervous and get lost in such a large building that is difficult for newcomers to navigate.
