
Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Participates in the department’s fire prevention operations.
• Operates heavy firefighting and mechanical equipment; lays out lines; operates pump to provide correct suppressant flows.
• Performs Interior Fire Suppression operations in conditions that may include high heat, limited or zero visibility and hazardous environments.
• Responds to emergencies and calls for assistance.
• Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, diabetic seizures, sports and automobile injuries, and other traumatic and medical incidents.
• Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid in accordance with guidelines.
• Provides medical assistance to victims of fires and other incidents.
• Stabilizes patients and transports them to appropriate facilities as needed.
• Responds to and takes appropriate actions at hazardous materials incidents.
• Ventilates burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or by cutting holes in roofs and floors.
• Adheres to city and department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Inspects equipment and apparatus to ensure proper functioning.
• Inspects and checks conditions of fire hydrants and water supply sources; maintains, services, cleans, tests, and performs minor repairs to fire apparatus, pumps, generators, and emergency medical equipment.
• Participates in the cleaning and maintenance of quarters and station facilities.
• Performs related duties.
