Robert Masters

Semi-Retired Network Administrator
Murfreesboro,TN

Summary

I am mostly a self-educated technology guy. I had a home lab for many years. I'm a hardware and network tech. I'm a early adopter. What makes me different from most folks like me is I also interface well with other people. I can work with almost anyone, whether client, superior or subordinate.

I have a very simple philosophy when it comes to my work. Tell me what needs to be done. Tell me when it needs to be done. Tell me who else needs to be involved and/or reported to. Then leave it to me to accomplish that task in a responsible and thorough manner. If I have questions I'll ask. If I need to train someone else, I will.

Work History

Group Facilitator & Instructor

Bowdoin Recovery Services
Smyrna, TN
09.2016 - Current
  • I work with adult clients who are mostly ordered by a court into an educational program for behavioral modification.
  • I primarily work closely with female co-facilitators in a state approved Batterer's Intervention and Prevention (B.I.P.) program. Our goal is to protect victims and prevent future victimization. We model appropriate interactions and behavior as we lead men through a series of discussions and exercises over a twenty-six to fifty-two week period. The program is designed to encourage abandonment of violent and controlling behaviors in favor of more positive self awareness and healthier emotional lifestyle changes.
  • I teach Anger Management classes. I share rational and constructive methods to explore and address anger triggers. In some cases I work with another facilitator to encourage client adoption of alternative conflict resolution skills designed to avoid potential anger triggers.
  • I am a certified Tennessee Driving Under Influences / Driving While Impaired (D.U.I./D.W.I.) instructor. Most clients have been arrested for driving, boating or flying while using alcohol and/or drugs. I teach a substance abuse prevention program which employs facts, humor and motivational interviewing to mitigate future potentially lethal behaviors.
  • My current position requires efficient organization skills. I must provide detailed client notes and timely reporting for both internal and external agency use.

Outside Marketing Representative

Sam's Club
Donelson, TN
09.2012 - 01.2014
  • My role required visiting member and non-member businesses in the Nashville Tennessee area. I approached non-member businesses by providing brand awareness and education. I interviewed owners and/or managers to determine their needs and any possible opportunities for their expansion using Sam's Club products and services. I made recommendations to fill gaps in their supply chain or address other issues and requirements. I added new memberships to meet monthly goals and provided those members with a plan to implement service changes or deploy additional products based on their specific situation.
  • I collaborated with Sam's Club member businesses to reduce costs and exploit new opportunities. I provided them with inventory samples and marketing materials. When available I would distribute market intelligence information provided by Sam's Club for the members' industry. I was also the liaison to members with order fulfillment issues.
  • I took this position to get out of the house after retirement. I was mostly unsupervised. I was reasonably successful and I learned a great deal from the business people who were my customers. January 2014 Sam's Club ceased operation of all outside representative units company wide. I was one of 3,200 terminated in the restructuring.

System Network Administrator

Homeland Security Corporation
Nashville, TN
04.2002 - 12.2006
  • I was personally involved in every aspect of the original network installation, configuration and remote access deployment. Homeland Security Corporation (HSC) was chosen by Lockheed Martin (LM) as the subcontractor to train front line TSA security agents after congress gave LM the contract following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
  • When I started in this position the entire IT department consisted of three people, including me. Within a year I was managing a IT staff of 15 supporting 75 corporate HQ systems, 11 servers and over 1,500 instructors and support staff in the field 24/7-365.
  • I was one of a four person team who chose the outside network security team. I worked with that team to design and implement security measures to protect HSC networks.
  • In addition to my involvement configuring the secure, smooth, reliable operation of our networks I also managed performance of day-to-day LAN and WAN maintenance and support.
  • I maintained applications along with my team to keep software current with necessary updates and upgrades.
  • Once I was charged with the distribution and archival of digital training materials I implemented a program to audit, retrieve and destroy hundreds of DVDs that were being mailed to instructors. My team established a secure file server with a system for pushing updates without manufacturing or postage costs. I also directed the creation of a secure off-side data storage location for physical and digital backups.

Senior Field Service Technician

Advanced Network Solutions
Hendersonville, TN
09.1996 - 04.2002
  • I installed, maintained, upgraded and repaired all the hardware, software and network systems needs required for between twenty-five and thirty-five small businesses across Tennessee. I was also responsible for oversight of three other technicians.
  • Our client base was primarily medical facilities, dental facilities and legal offices ranging from five to around one hundred employees. I custom built many of the machines to meet the specific requirements of practice management software companies for our clients.
  • I installed and maintained everything from printers to networks. I was responsible for the smooth, reliable interface between digital equipment like X-Ray machines and document management systems with the client practice management software.
  • Properly completed work reports for each field visit and made sure my subordinates' reports were thorough for future support visits.
  • Diagnosed errors and determined proper solutions.
  • Discussed and recommended service options with customers and explained costs involved.
  • Managed on-site and off-site installation, repair, maintenance and test tasks.
  • Jay Schooley, the owner of the ANS sold the company to Advanced Data Solutions (New York?) December of 2005. Mr. Schooley retired and became a Christian missionary in Mexico.
