Driven by a results-focused approach, I honed leadership and machine operation skills across roles, notably as a Construction Engineering Supervisor with the U.S. Army. As a production worker running a station on an assembly line a few of my key responsibilities were housekeeping, quality checks and cross training, Being able to identify faults is very important in deciding is something is top quality or can be used as a second/cheaper product. After a short time and cross training, I was promoted to a relief position. This new position is important because it involves being able to operate several pieces of equipment within the facility and time management. The relief personal is responsible for ensuring the personal in their section get their scheduled breaks while maintaining good housekeeping and being on call for anyone who might need help.
Since being employed with West Fraser lumber mill I was able to open new opportunities and learned all new skills. As a utility worker I was responsible for everyday cleaning of the mill and the operation of several of the less technical pieces of equipment. After being promoted to bander operator I obtained a greater workload with included tasks such as ensuring packs of lumber were stacked properly to fit the bander machine, that the packs had the correct number of bands and placed in the right area and fix any packs that did not meet the standards. Along with meeting the standards I was also responsible ensuring my equipment stayed running properly whether that meant working on and fixing it myself of calling for our maintenance staff to look at it. Going from a construction background into a mill and production field has given me a greater understanding of proper systems and given me skills and an even better work ethic than I could have thought,
Being employed with this staffing agency there have been a multitude of opportunities to work in many different trades. As a laborer the options have been endless; with the ability to get into any type of field such as replacing residential windows, industrial electrician as a wire puller and an apprentice roof repair technician. Working in all these different fields has given me the love of learning something new, higher appreciation of others in these fields and a great work ethic.
After leaving Schofield Barracks and being reassigned to Fort Leavenworth Kansas as a team member and section leader of a medium sized construction/maintenance section there were numerous chances to not just do the work but to train, lead, and mentor others. Authorized to work and do maintenance within two military correction facilities and throughout base presented many opportunities. After becoming the section leader, the responsibility of tracking and maintaining the sections tool kits, military vehicles, and construction equipment was priced at approximately $814,730.41. Along with the promotion I picked up the added authority of working with the Department of Public Works to do work around base. This included building target stands for the firing range and constructing a verity of military training props.
While assigned to the 643rd Engineer Company out of Schofield Barracks Hawaii there were many opportunities to learn new skills along with expanding my current skill set.
