In my current position at Baptist Health Walker, I am a laboratory generalist. I also have some lead tech responsibilities. I am responsible for accurate testing, quality control in each department, correlations between analyzers, proficiency testing, lot to lot comparisons. The analyzers I work with are as follows: Sysmex XN2000, Sysmex 2500, Medtox drug screen analyzers, Beckman Coulter Iricell, SQA-V Gold semen analyzer, Beckman Coulter DXC/DXI, Ortho Vision Swift, Cobas Liat, as well as manual kit testing, manual blood bank testing, and micro set-up.
I was a lead tech at UAB Hospital Emergency Department Lab. This laboratory was located in a level 1 trauma center and it was extremely fast paced. Testing had to be performed efficiently and accurately. As a lead tech I was responsible for staff scheduling, ordering supplies and reagents, monthly quality control review and peer group review, new employee competencies/ yearly employee competencies, assigning proficiency testing, lot to lot review, maintenance on analyzers, as well as daily tech responsibilities. I worked on a Beckman Coulter DXH 800, Beckman Coulter Iricell, Beckman Coulter Access, Radiometer Blood Gas analyzers, Abbott Architect, HIV Genius confirmation testing, Haemonetics Teg 5000, Beckman Coulter AU 680, as well as manual kit testing.
I worked in general lab at Brookwood Baptist Walker. These departments included: Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, and some Phlebotomy. I was responsible for maintaining, running, correlating and troubleshooting analyzers. I was also responsible for performing quality control and reporting accurate test results in a timely manner. In Hematology I worked with a Sysmex XN2000. I worked with a Beckman Coulter Iricell in urinalysis. I worked with a Sysmex 1500 in coag. In chemistry, I worked with a DXC 600i/DXI. In Blood Bank, I worked with an Ortho Vision and manual testing. I was responsible for set-up in microbiology.
I worked in a small STAT lab that was located in Walker Medical Diagnostics. I was responsible for phlebotomy and specimen processing as well as performing and reporting accurate test results. I was also the float for several doctors’ offices around Jasper.
