Prepress Manager

Fortis
Lewisville, TX
10.2020 - 04.2021
  • As Prepress Manager, I am responsible for five direct reports and the complete function of the Prepress and Plate departments in the Lewisville facility. I also integrate and work to dove-tail with the growing number of Fortis facilities as we leverage an ever-growing pool of processes and printing capabilities.
  • Accomplishments
  • Brought the proof turn-around time to 24-48 hours from the original 4-6 weeks prior to assuming my position.
  • Realized an over $10,000 savings in Quarter 1 of 2021 compared to Q1 of 2020 regarding plate material expenditure.
  • Currently facilitating the migration from DFR plate material to EFX plate material for improved printing quality utilizing the higher durometer plate material.
  • Championing the drive to bring a higher percentage of workload to the digital presses using EPM (enhanced productivity mode) to bring an estimated 25% savings in labor and ink in the digital printing cell.
  • Facilitated the migration of the entire Lewisville prepress department to virtual work to insulate from Covid and weather-related delays and interruptions.
  • During my time at Fortis in cooperation with the Production team we have seen an overall reduction in quality issues, rejections and complaints around 35% compared to previous year.

Graphic Systems Analyst

Multi-Color Labels (MCC)
Remote

  • As Graphic Systems Analyst, I participate in and administer internal and external development, graphic systems support and standardization, as well as onsite facility services for multiple global facilities.
  • Accomplishments
  • Administered corporate-wide automated RIP and processing systems, tightly integrated with various business resources (MIS, Cumulus DAM, Esko Automation Engine, Canto RoboFlow etc.)
  • Championed and launched centralized prepress file storage and SOPs corporate-wide which increased repeatability and reduced loss.
  • Leveraged cloud-based services on a variety of projects, decreasing hardware and software spend including Nasuni implementations, and bringing new services to market more quickly than by using traditional 'in-house' methods.
  • Streamlined and standardized digital asset management by incorporating state of the art DAM technology, allowing for centralized asset storage at our Neenah, WI based Data Center. This has reduced hardware costs and allows for easier transfer of assets and jobs between plants.
  • Created and maintained full administrative and user documentation for the centralized digital asset management system.
  • Modernized the prepress stepping and replication system to be semi-automated low-touch which increased through-put dramatically and reduced operator error.
  • Developing centralized prepress infrastructure, with the goal of reducing hardware and software requirements at all plants. Potential estimated savings between $250,000 and $300,000.
  • Analyzed system requirements and specifications to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to implement software solutions enhancing operational efficiency.

  • Oversight of standard sets of workflows, useable by multiple facilities to enhance work sharing and load balancing.
  • Managed upgrade licensure, technical feasibility analysis and deployment of prepress systems.
  • Collaborated with Infrastructure to construct and test a centralized ripping architecture with the directive of reducing hardware, footprint, maintenance and facility cost of prepress graphic systems.
  • User support, technical troubleshooting and solution architecture that standardized processes across prepress departments leading to much lower operator error and less necessary touches directly reducing non-productive dwell time.

Prepress Technical Support & Department Lead

Algoma, WI
01.2013 - 01.2013
  • As Prepress Technical Support and Department Lead, I had the opportunity to directly impact company growth, through the design and construction of many internal production systems.
