Provides nursing care to general surgery and medical overflow. Examples of patients that the Med Surg RN will see are general surgery, postoperative abdominal, vascular, bariatric, trauma, and gynecological. As Surg RN is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the Nursing Process, acts as a patient advocate, provides support, information and direct care and utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures. Also, educates patients and families on significant self-care issues. The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications as ordered.

• Routine nursing duties including preparing patients for examination: check vital signs, weight, and height. Perform standard clinical and laboratory procedures, Accuchek and other screenings as required in accordance with established clinical protocols.
