Office of Admissions Shift Leader

Interns serve as ambassadors of the College and work to creatively and thoughtfully engage newly enrolled students and their families, as well as prospective students and families. Shift leaders work with the Intern Supervisor to coordinate the group of admissions interns in their day-to-day activities.

Given the nature of Admissions’ work this year, Shift Leaders agree to:

  • Work side by side with the Intern Supervisor to generate strategies, projects and additional activities within the intern program
  • Lead group check-ins with their shift
  • Participate in meetings with other teams within Admissions and Operations
  • Participate in meetings with other departments to continue to spread communication about the work within other areas of the College
  • Creating content for short videos for Admissions, blog posts, and all social media channels (Tumblr, ZeeMee, Instagram, TikTok) with prospective and admitted students in mind
  • Communicating with admitted and prospective students through various means

Serving as an ambassador for in-person and virtual visits by:

  • Providing on-campus and virtual tours
  • Accompanying students and their families to lunch
  • Engaging in genuine and meaningful conversations in group or 1:1 settings
  • Reaching out to current, prospective, and enrolled students through email, handwritten cards, and phone calls
  • Prepping for and participating in virtual and in-person events (New Student events, Fall Weekend, Fall for Bennington, Bennington Bound, BenningtonWorks, Overnights, and Saturday Open Houses, among others that occur in the evenings and on the weekends)

Spanish Language Tutor

  • Hold tutoring sessions - 3 hours per week - to facilitate students’ language learning and cultural understanding.
  • Organize weekly Language Tables with other leaders and host 5 (or more) Language Tables per term.

State of Vermont Senate Intern

During my field work term over this winter I will be an intern in the State of Vermont Senate. I will have the privilege of shadowing Senator Kesha Ram-Hinsdale for the first weeks of January and providing support in various legislative tasks. Attending committee sessions on Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs, as well as Education. All of this will help me to gain valuable insights into the legislative process.
