Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead at SS&C Technologies
Designed, developed, and created technical specifications for financial applications in COBOL/DB2/CICS environment, enabling seamless consumption of Mainframe applications and features by internet and desktop applications.
Converted Mainframe COBOL programs into PL/SQL or COBOL stored procedures (DB2) to facilitate smooth interface integration with other platforms while preserving existing business logic.
Managed production support and project development for complex Mainframe back-end application interfacing with C# and internet applications.
Enhanced performance of long-running SQL code in Batch and CICS programs to optimize processing speed.
Senior Software Engineer, Lead/Programmer Analyst at JHA in Seattle, WA.
Accomplishments I designed and developed the Mainframe Service standards using CICS/TS, TCP/IP Socket technology to integrate with the new Vendor package, written in Cobol.. I architected and developed the CICS Mainframe TCP/IP communication process, for both client and server processes. MQ was used as data communication/triggering tool.
Designed and implemented Load Balancing process to dynamically route CICS Mainframe transactions to various integration queues, optimizing performance monitoring.
Developed Mainframe Services to integrate with Ondot Card Control application, enhancing system interoperability.
Created Z/OS Node.js VSAM service enabling web applications to interact with VSAM Mainframe datasets, streamlining data exchange.
Senior Software Engineer for the Department of Administrative Services
Designed and developed Online CICS TAX-Table and Rates management system, eliminating hard-coded Tax and Rate Tables and associated program logic from multiple online CICS and Batch programs.
Empowered business users to access and manage their own data directly through the online application. to directly maintain various rates through the Online Tax and Rate application, reducing reliance on the development department for change requests.
Mainframe Application Lead/Programmer Analyst at XPO (aka Con-way) IT headquarters in Portland, OR.
Ensured production CICS environment remained bug-free through dedicated work on various CICS/DB2 projects.
Designed and developed integration methods connecting Mainframe legacy systems with web technology applications, enhancing system interoperability.
I designed and developed Java Intranet and Internet applications for Con-way's Electronic BOL applications, allowing seamless interaction between internal and external users regarding new order processing and invoice management.
5 years' experience using Agile.
Evaluated software packages from vendors such as Salesforce and Netsuite, designing integrations to mainframe legacy applications.
Accomplishments Technical Lead on many complex projects. I developed standards regarding integration and interface of Mainframe legacy and Java applications. I made the Mainframe production CICS regions "abend free" by utilizing my in-depth knowledge of CICS programming and internals. Troubleshooting and debugging is one of my strengths. I created many Mainframe tools for developers to assist in testing and troubleshooting. I used TOAD and AQT to produce ad-hoc documents using advanced SQL for DB/2. Provided 24/7 Production support.
During this period I worked as an independent consultant at a big international Bank in Dusseldorf, Germany. This bank has many branches worldwide, all connected to the mainframe in Dusseldorf.
Implemented, tuned, and managed major banking applications, fulfilling project manager duties to ensure successful planning and execution from development to implementation.
Oversaw production environment of key application, ensuring reliability and performance standards were met.
In the applications area I technically designed and implemented complex production Application regions, and continued technical and debugging support once implemented.
Installed, customized, and tuned various CICS/ESA releases, providing training to local IT staff to enhance their operational capabilities.
Enhanced system performance through effective troubleshooting and tuning.
I went to Tokyo, Moscow, Brussels, New York City and Rotterdam to convert and integrate local systems to the headquarters standards.
These applications were running under MVS/ESA, CICS, DB2, IMS DB/DC, with interfaces to local applications. I designed and implemented interfaces to local PC-systems using tools such as PROTERM, FTP, CONNECT-DIRECT.
In this period I also developed and taught some internal CICS and IMS Classes.
Even though all this was part of the Application department of the company, I had extra privileges concerning the system part of the systems, because of my experience in these areas as well. I installed new CICS and IMS releases in the test and production regions where these applications where running, performed tuning at both the application and system level, and advised on the purchase of supporting packages, such as XPEDITOR, TMON, MICS and others.
01.1979 - 01.1988
During this period I worked at various places in The Netherlands, America and Germany.
In 1979 at the age of 18 I completed a six-month COBOL course in the Netherlands.
I went on to work for the largest Mail-order company in the Netherlands, on new development for an online order-entry system under DOS/VSE and CICS.
For this company this was the first online system being developed.
I also was trained in PL/1 to maintain an existing PL/1 Inventory control system.
After three years at the age of 21 I moved to the United States.
In America I worked as a consultant for different companies in Louisville and Miami.
In Louisville I worked for Capital Holding, now Providian, a very large Life insurance company.
This was from 1982 until 1984. I converted a DOS/VSE Life insurance application to an MVS CICS/IMS platform. This included re-designing and re-writing major subsystems. The system was running under Assembler, Batch, and CICS Macro level. New development was performed under COBOL and CICS Command Level.
Despite my young age I was given a leading position in this big conversion project.
During this time I was also heavily trained as a systems programmer for CICS.
From 1984 until 1985 I worked for Computer Horizons Corporation in Miami, FL.
I was placed for this whole year to work as a systems-consultant at Florida Power and Light, the largest utility company in Florida.
Here I worked strictly in the application department as a systems analyst, developing and implementing Order and Schedule control systems. This was all done in Assembler, Cobol with both CICS and IMS/DC as TP Monitor and DB/2 for part of the systems.
In 1985 I went to work for Verhoef Information Packages, a Computer Training company based in New Jersey.
I travelled through America and Canada, teaching various courses in CICS and IMS to both application and systems people.
The classes I was teaching were: CICS Command Level Programming, CICS Macro Level Programming, CICS application and systems debugging, CICS Internal Architecture, IMS Programming, CICS Tuning, and various VSAM classes. I also developed a newly IMS development course, and upgraded various CICS courses to new releases.
I was a software instructor for two full years.
