Work History

CMC Secretary

FCC Coleman Federal Bureau of Prisons
05.2015 - Current
  • I am a 10 point Preference Veteran who has worked at FCC Coleman Federal Bureau of Prisons for the past 10 years. I have worked full time in the mailroom department for 6 months from June 5, 2016 through December 8, 2016. I worked Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a total of 40 hours per week. I processed incoming, outgoing, legal and certified mail. I searched each piece of mail for contraband or unauthorized photographic material. I used all of my necessary protective equipment when handling the mail. I utilized the Web-Sentry Program so I could identify the inmates by their first and last names and ensure that I get the correct register number. I then found out the location of where the inmate was located at and assisted in routing the mail out to their proper institutions. I spent a total of 5 hours a day processing the mail and 2 hours assisting in delivering the mail. I spent 1 hour of the day to go to post office to pick up the mail.
  • I have worked 80 hours in the Receiving and Discharge here at FCC Coleman. I have shadowed officers during the coordination of prisoner transfers. I have assisted in the in processing procedures of newly arrived inmates. I have conducted visual searches looking for any types of contraband and gang related tattoos that might be located on the inmates. I have fingerprinted inmates and took photos upon their arrival I have conducted DNA samples and alcohol breath tests on inmates who may have been under the influence. I have followed all security procedures when it came to escorting inmates to and from the front lobby area upon arrival and departure. I have logged into Sentry to check in the inmates when they arrive our institution and check out of the institution. I have packed property and filled out the necessary documents so that the inmates get all of their belongings. I have printed out new ID cards for the inmates and created a file folder with pictures of them and their register numbers that are kept in a file safe. I have shadowed officers on how to properly conduct the change of custody with Federal and non Federal agencies.
  • I have 10 years of great communication skills with inmates, fellow employees, supervisors and the outside public such as Law Enforcement, Consulates, and all other agencies. I know how to properly articulate policy and procedures to eliminate any type of miscommunication or confusion. When dealing with inmates I try to keep my message positive and on point. This helps me to maintain poise and allows me to win over the person who I am communicating with. i Have read and follow my Correctional Services Procedures and my Program Statements and keep these in mind during my day to day activities. I am very proficient in de-escalating a situation when it comes to an upset inmate. When dealing with an upset inmate you first want to utilize correct body posture and listen to the inmate first so that you can get a feel for what the problem is about. Listening and utilizing great eye contact and great body posture helps a lot when diffusing a situation with a disgruntled inmate.
  • Every 2 weeks for the past 10 years I have been assigned to an augmentation post over at the medium institution. I worked a total of 4 hours during the augmented day. During those 4 hours I was completely in charge of running that unit by myself. I conducted several stand up counts ensuring that all inmates were present and in their assigned cells. I have conducted all of my 30 minute rounds which meant I walked the unit visually searching for any unusual behavior of inmates being drunk or high on drugs and also looking to see if my unit is clean and has great sanitation. I have had the opportunity to write several incident reports, isolation reports along with memos and fill out my officer reports. i have packed property out on several occasions when an inmate had disciplinary action against him filled out the form and sent had compound officer come to my unit to pick up his belongings. I have conducted many movements while on augmentation receiving calls from medical and psychology and ensuring that the inmate is directed to their offices. I have conducted census counts on several occasions. I have contacted the perimeter vehicle whenever I had a 2 hour escape watch in my unit.
  • I have 15 years of experience when it comes to Microsoft word, correct punctuation, spelling grammer and typographical errors. I have prepared various memos, incident reports and letters and distributed them to the appropriate staff members or first line supervisors.
  • I have processed Time and Attendance for a total of 10 years here at FCC Coleman Federal Burea of Prisons, ensuring that the staff members received the correct amount of pay and any overtime that was completed. I have completed a total of 480 of meeting minutes. I have done the meeting minutes for our Complex Department Head meetings for the past 10 years. I have completed 80 Hours of Special Housing Rounds in the year of 2017. I use to walk SHU rounds with the Wardens, Psychologists and Unit team and observe some of the questions that were asked from the inmates and Department Heads. I have passed all of my Annual Trainings and I keep up with all of my Blu Training and posted picture files. I have been a Purchase Card holder for the past 10 years.
  • I have shadowed officers in the records department for 6 months processing immediate release documents, writs, detainers, transfers and furlough packets. I know how to utilize Web-Sentry to find ut when an inmate has left our institution and forward his new identification card to his next location whether it be a Halfway house or his home address.
