  • Serves as a Industrial Hygiene (IH) Technician and provides support to multiple commands of varying complexity and mission. The services provided are Baseline and periodic IH surveys, IH consultations, and Special surveys. The scope of work includes laboratory identification of asbestos, personal and area sampling, and personal and area monitoring. Special surveys are conducted for Indoor Air quality (IAQ) issues such as mold, moisture, Heat/Cold, and other unknown irritants.
  • EXPOSURE MONITORING PLAN (EMP): Responsible for the completion of EMP for multiple commands on geographically dispersed Marine Corps Base. Establishes contacts, mechanisms, and procedures to coordinate and obtain the required monitoring. Prior to sampling execution, becomes familiar with work operations, materials, and other relevant facts about the workplace. Documents workplace conditions and any apparent violations of occupational safety and health standards seen while sampling. Initiates and coordinates sampling of new or modified work processes or conditions.
  • INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE SURVEYS: Plans, coordinates, and conducts complete sampling evaluations of work operations involving potentially hazardous environmental conditions. Relates the recognized hazards to the actual occupational health hazards observed. Evaluations may encompass chemical health hazards resulting from inhalation of vapors, fumes, mists, gases, and dusts, or from skin contact; physical hazards such as noise or cumulative trauma disorders; or biological hazards such as those found in indoor environments after chronic water intrusion events. Gathers and analyzes data and communicates findings. Performs field measurements using IH sampling equipment. Collects personal exposure data for subsequent laboratory analysis. Assists during highly sensitive or complex health investigations and provides technical assistance and support. Records all measurements/sampling data as required for establishing a historical record of occupational exposure. Reviews blueprints, and measures and troubleshoots mechanical ventilation systems. Enters exposure monitoring data into Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System – Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH).
  • TECHNICAL CONSULTATIONS AND TRAINING: Performed technical consultations for issues such as pregnant employee counseling, construction and renovation plan reviews, hazardous materials storage issues, laboratory safety, and range safety. Prepares instructional outlines and provides technical instruction to IH professionals, technicians, and workplace monitors on the use of new and technically advanced IH equipment.
