I started out in the quick lane performing basic maintenance such as oil changes, rotation and balance, multi point inspections, air filters, fuel filters, cabin filters and more as well as suggestions for up-sales like brake jobs, transmission flushing, coolant flushing and more.
After 18 months I was moved into the used car department where I performed complete used car inspections and performed any repairs needed for the vehicles to be ready to hit the sales floor.
2 years after that I became a full line service technician where I performed a number of different services everything from basic maintenance such as oils changes to pulling full interiors apart, sunroof track replacements, fluid leak diagnosis and repairs such as front covers, water pumps, power steering issues, charging system diagnosis with alternator replacements, radiator replacement, pressure tests, fluid flushes, brake jobs, suspension and steering system repairs and more.
After 5 years of mechanical work for the dealership I was given the opportunity to become the quick lane manager and I had the chance to keep working on vehicles as well as train 10-12 young men and women who were starting out the same way I did. I was in charge of everything from getting customers in and out in a timely manner while making sure the services they came in for were complete. To making sure all the techs under me had everything they needed to be successful. Also I made sure the shop was in professional working order. All the lifts and tire changers and balancing machines were working properly. Oil filters stayed stocked and I kept track of the technicians hours and performance.
After 2 years of that and about 8-8 1/2 years as a mechanic for the dealership. I decided to change my career paths and became a salesman in the automotive department for one of the largest volume dealers in the world.
