Bilingual professional with a strong background in forensic psychology, and clinical psychology. Education is something I strongly value and have thus made sure to have a teaching component in almost every job I've had. Not just as an associate professor at a community college, but also in training interns, staff, and community members on various mental health didactics. I am enthusiastic in teaching those who seek ongoing education.
Conduct competency evaluations as ordered by the Courts to asses defendants mental state and determine if they can understand the legal proceedings and assist in their own defense. Provide the Courts with a detailed report that indicates if the defendant understands the legal proceedings and if they have the capacity to assist in their own defense. A prognosis for competency restoration is included as are recommendations.
Assisted in training interns and externs via development and presentation of didactics. Taught Mental Health First Aid Training to staff, professors, or associated professors. Provided direct counseling and consultation support to University of Arizona students via a brief therapy model. Student population includes adults of all ages, multicultural, and LGBTQ+. Actively engaged in mental health outreach via campus wide presentations and tabling events with direct student contact. Collaborated with multiple departments to provide integrated services for students. Supported students exploring major and minor options, while evaluating career options. Helped students identify barriers to academic success and helped them connect with campus resources.
Taught weekly social emotional classes for grades Kindergarten to 4th grade. Provided emotional support and brief counseling for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grades. Aided in problem resolution between students. Provided support to teachers with students with behavior difficulties. Use of multi-disciplinary therapy techniques including play therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Consulted for students with learning disabilities and needing individualized education plans. Provided all services in a hybrid mode, both in person and on-line.
Conducted psychological, psychoeducational, and psychosexual assessments for adults, youth and children. The evaluations included an array of testing for: level of intellectual functioning, memory, mood disorders, personality disorders, developmental issues, overall executive functioning and neuropsychological screening. Services delivered in English and Spanish. Provided services in Tucson, Phoenix, Benson, and Yuma AZ. Also conducted risk assessments for juvenile with sexual offending behaviors to determine recidivism rate of re-offense. Provided individual and group sex offender treatment for men on probation. Assisted in training staff on issues related to juvenile sexual offending behaviors, including chaperone training and the juvenile treatment program. Implemented person centered practice for the treatment of all clients.
Taught in-person and on-line classes during Spring, Fall, and Summer sessions. Courses taught include; Introduction to psychology, personality theories, developmental psychology, social psychology and counseling and personal development. All classes consisted of lectures, and the use of multiple visual aids such as power points, video clips, pictures, handouts, examples of psychological tests and questionnaires, and the use of the white boards. Supplemented textbook information with current research and trends. Student work such as homework, tests, and research papers were graded and returned promptly. Provided face-to-face availability for students both before and after class or as agreed upon with students. Provided accommodations for students with disabilities and additional explanations for students with English as a second language. All attendance reports and grades required by the institution were submitted on time using the Blackboard grade system.
