Program Specialist - (NASA Internship and Fellowship [NIF] Interns Coordinator)

  • My responsibilities included planning, recruiting, managing, and implementing the NIFS internship program
  • I worked with representatives from each of the 10 NASA field centers, colleges and universities to introduce and offer students a 10-to-16-week internship
  • I scheduled training, mentoring, and career development opportunities for students, while they worked alongside NASA’s science, engineering, financial, information technology and business personnel
  • I ensured programs met the Agency’s strategy goals and objectives
  • I participated in general management reviews
  • I conducted functional inspections for compliance with policies, plans, regulations, and work planning
  • I planned, administered, and supported educational projects as assigned
  • I consulted with and advised institutions regarding upcoming projects that were available for students to apply for internship through the agency’s One Stop Shopping Initiative (OSSI) website
  • I organized and coordinated special youth organizations and school projects that were designed to enhance the Agency’s image as a resource
  • I provided specialized projects and events such as tours and meetings for the students
  • I ensured evaluation data was collected via an approved Agency education database

  • My role as the appointed NASA John F
  • Kennedy Space Center’s STI Manager DAA Representative, I stayed abreast of the requirements of the STI Program (STIP) and coordinated the implementation of STIP related requirements
  • I served as the main Point-of-Contact (POC) for KSC and participated in various STIP activities
  • When a STI is classified as, Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), or unclassified with no access restrictions, I would provide oversight and coordination of contractor compliance with the Critical Design Review (CRD) portion of DOE O 241.1B, Scientific and Technical Information Management and other applicable Department of Energy (DOE) directives with related requirements (i.e., regarding sensitivity reviews, etc.)
  • I ensured a DAA form was completed if the STI was believed to be Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU)
  • This procedure assured appropriate sensitivity review process of STI was implemented and an appropriately review and marking before it was released outside of the center’s jurisdiction of their site prior to release to Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) or Web posting
  • This review was achieved with the assistance of the NASA STI Contract Support team with the collection, organizing, dissemination, and archiving (through the National Archives and Records Administration [NARA]) for the approved STI.

Program Specialist - (Assistant Records Manager)

  • As Assistant Records Manager in the Information Technology (IT) Directorate, my role was to plan, control, direct, organize, train, promote, and other managerial activities involved in records creation, maintenance and use, and disposition to achieve adequate and proper documentation of the policies and transactions of the Federal Government’s Federal Records Act (44 U.S.C
  • 31) and corresponding Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) that requires all federal agencies maintain records that document activities, file records for safe storage and efficient retrieval, and dispose of records according to agency General Records Schedules (GRS)
  • My responsibilities were to ensure the data held was accurate and stored securely, and to ensure these obligations were met
  • I was also, assigned to train Records Custodians to manage their records at the office level and implementing records management policies and procedures by applying the five step essential records management procedures to each of their office level records, which are to: set up a Records Retention Schedule; adhere to the government’s Policies and Procedures; provide accessibility, indexing, and storage; compliance auditing, per the GRS
  • As Assistant Records manager, along with the Records Manager our main objective was to oversee the organization’s records from their creation and preservation through to disposal
  • Our major goals were met by training each organization’s staff members and by making them aware they had a legal responsibility to ensure the data that was held was accurate and stored securely.
