Rose Stackhouse

I volunteered through a program at my local parish called Youth Organization. Through this program we did many service projects that included making appreciation bags for children at CHOP and Veterans, and making Sandwiches for people in poverty.

During my senior year I took a class called Child Development. In that class we would go to the elementary school in our district and be assigned certain classes to help out in. I was assigned to first grade and in that class I worked with some students that had trouble focusing and learning material. While the teacher was teaching I would help these students by giving them extra help with the specific lesson we were working on.

I was a part of the National Honor Society during my Sophomore and Junior year of high school. As a part of that organization we tutored other classmates that needed help in certain areas about once a month. One of my favorite memories from my tutoring experience was the first time I ever tutored someone in Geometry.

As I was explaining the material to this student I could see the lightbulb begin to click in his head. Once he started to understand the material he was extremely happy. That was the moment that I knew I wanted to be a teacher.

During a couple of my high school years I helped out at my Parishes PREP program as a teachers aide. I aided for the CCD Kindergarten and Fourth grade classes. I am extremely grateful that I had this opportunity to help out in this program because it taught me a lot about my faith and working with children.
