Courses Taught

  • English 21, English Fundamentals. A class which focuses on the fundamentals of academic reading, writing, and critical thinking. Students incorporate these skills to write single paragraph responses progressing to short essays of 250 to 500 words that have an introduction, body, and a conclusion.
  • English 28, Intermediate Reading and Comp. A class in which students plan, draft, revise, and edit compositions. They progress from multi-paragraph essays to research papers. Writing is based on readings that cover topics that challenge students' thinking and provide an intellectual background for the assignments.
  • English 101, College Reading and Composition. A class that introduces students to persuasive discourse, research skills, critical reading, thinking, and argumentation. Various compositions and extensive research assignments are required. This class fulfills the transfer requirement to a four-year college.
  • English 103, Composition and Critical Thinking. A class which helps students to develop their critical thinking and writing skills beyond the level in English 101. This course emphasizes the application of logical reasoning, analysis, and strategies of argumentation in critical thinking and writing using both fiction and non-fiction.
