As a chemistry major, I am eager to apply my knowledge to real-world challenges. During my time at Hongce (Xiamen) Testing Technology Co., Ltd., I participated in field sampling and laboratory sample preparation, which gave me an initial understanding of standardized procedures and industry requirements for soil and water quality testing. Later, while working at SGS in Anchorage, Alaska, I further developed my technical skills in environmental sample extraction and preparation, while also enhancing my laboratory techniques, communication abilities, and teamwork. Collaborating with cross-functional teams deepened my appreciation for the importance of efficient workflows and collaboration when handling large volumes of environmental samples. These experiences not only provided me with valuable hands-on training but also laid a solid foundation for advancing my sample preparation skills and pursuing my goal of becoming an analytical chemist.
At the graduate level, I hope to systematically develop my skills in instrumental analysis related to food safety and food flavor through the Master’s program in Food Science and Technology at Virginia Tech. I aim to gain a deep understanding of the principles and applications of analytical techniques, while cultivating a rigorous approach to data analysis and result interpretation. Specifically, I hope to become proficient in operating key instruments such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), enabling me to quickly and accurately identify data trends and anomalies, and to strengthen my overall abilities in troubleshooting and method optimization. When faced with abnormal experimental data, I aspire to accurately pinpoint the root cause, propose effective solutions, and ensure data accuracy, traceability, and compliance with laboratory quality systems. Looking ahead, my career goals extend beyond the field of environmental monitoring—I also seek to contribute to the field of food testing. I aspire to become an analytical chemist capable of making meaningful contributions in the areas of food safety and flavor analysis, providing scientific and reliable data to support the health and safety of food products.
