An 18-month assembly pre-apprenticeship at Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products Division provides the opportunity to gain practical on-the-job work experience in a manufacturing environment and apply their academic studies to practical work situations. From the start, apprentices are challenged to demonstrate their strengths and apply their knowledge to help us achieve our business strategy. Candidates were chosen based on the following criteria: Scholastic record, Discipline profile, Attendance profile, Interview skills, and Letters of recommendation. Employment in a manufacturing assembly environment. While in the Pre-apprenticeship program, I took manufacturing-related classes at Johnston Community College (13 credit hours), as well as received on-the-job training at Caterpillar (640 hours).

Through the Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) program, gained leadership experience and served as a role model for younger campers while assisting counselors and staff with summer camp activities.
CILT program allowed me to grow in character and leadership development while being led by experienced staff members serving as mentors. Days consisted of everything from spending time
with huddles to team-building, group outings, and putting together care packages for people in need.
