I am currently in the third year of a five year formation process to become ordained as a Permanent Deacon in The Holy Roman Catholic Church. Formation classes do not interfere with one's job as a deacon is usually a married man, established in his life and career, who upon ordination, becomes a servant to Mother Church and his brothers and sisters. It is an unpaid, volunteer position, but it is ordained clergy in the church. One's family and career come before service to the church in terms of time.
