Energy Design Team Lead

ASCE CPP Sustainable Solutions Competition 2026
Pomona, California
10.2025 - 03.2026
  • The ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition is a yearly event where every team is given a site that must be redesigned to obtain a high ENVISION score. This year, competitors are to redesign a data center with a new structural layout design, water management and distribution plan, energy sustainability and distribution improvements, a SketchUp 3D model, and a technical report. All the work is to be organized into a poster and presented at the ASCE PSWS Symposium.
  • Role: Energy Team Lead. I was tasked with redesigning the facility to have sustainable on-site power generation methods to offset power demands from the power grid.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine and design specific power demands of the IT equipment, lighting, security, and related amenities, to obtain the total facility power demand.
  • Determine which on-site power generation methods are most optimal and realistic, given the site conditions.
  • Accurately calculate the number of units to be installed and their combined contribution to powering the facility.
  • Implement proposed energy solutions successfully after using Civil3D to determine the locations of proposed solar panels, wind turbines, and substations, while adhering to standard codes and regulations.
  • Research and implement solutions for cooling IT equipment, and managing waste heat from large IT power demands.
