Work History

Senior Design Engineer

The Patten Company
3 2022 - Current
  • Designed 3D raft components using Solidworks and Autocad and flattened boat components into surfaces. Added stretch factors for cutting on Eastman.
  • Optimized nested rafts components on cutting table to save time, material, and cost.
  • Designed customer specific one person life rafts for the US Navy with custom mooring patches for heavier towing requirements
  • Coordinated with the US Department of Defense on the Guardian Angel project to create a life raft capable of evasion and escape
  • Over 1200 hours on AutoCAD designing, maintaining, and revising master files for the entire product library
  • Technical Writing of Work Instructions, Procedures, Logs, Forms and Records including work instructions of adhesive production, charging of inflation systems, and welding specifications.
  • Redesigned all charge weights of inflation systems in order to improve inflation time and nominal working pressures to ensure safety of all personnel aboard
  • Run production meetings and engineering meetings in order to keep the team working as a cohesive unit

Design and Manufacturing Engineer

Clayton Associates Inc.
07.2010 - 02.2020
  • Lead engineer overseeing others in the process of design methods and product assembly.
  • Created parts across numerous fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal fabrication and injection molding.
  • Modified existing products to secure contracts with a major aerospace manufacturer. Resultant contract revenues exceeded $1,000,000.
  • Supported the acquisition of an industry competitor by updating antiquated product designs and converting them to 3D models. With product designed stabilized, the acquired company provided nearly 100% increase in sales.
  • Tailored products for use in flammable, explosive, or otherwise dangerous atmospheres and for collection of hazardous material including Hexavalent Chromium, Asbestos, and Lead.
  • Created 3D and 2D CAD drawings using Creo 6.0 to convey manufacturing and production configurations.
  • Represented the company in various manufacturing conventions and standardization meetings.
  • Built functional prototypes utilizing various 3D printing methods. Created functional 3D printed production parts designed for strength and durability.
  • Programmed Epilog laser cutter for custom shadowboxed tools and etching.
  • Brought from concept to full production the industries first pneumatically powered hand held certified true HEPA vacuum.
  • Created Excel spreadsheets to calculate pressure losses and volumetric flowrates in large piping systems using Darcy-Weisbach equations.
  • Designed and fabricated an immersion separator for aluminum dust removal, used in certified Ford painting centers.
  • Used FEA methods to analyze structures under pressure and vacuum.
  • Estimated quantities and cost of materials, equipment and labor to determine project feasibility.
  • Prepared, checked and coordinated documentation to support component design and application.
  • Skilled at electromechanical design and wiring harnesses.

Junior Design Engineer

M.E.C. Tech
02.2010 - 07.2010
  • Tested feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems for semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Fabricated tools needed to construct silicon wafers using plasma etching chambers and hydrofluoric acid.
  • Altered silicon crystal growth by changing ingot from 1,0,0 crystal structure to 1,1,1 for denser concentration of atoms.
  • Familiar with p-type and n-type doping.
