Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Filled in with Modoc Type 2 IA Crew
  • Utilizes a variety of tools, equipment, and techniques to suppress wildfires, such as a Pulaski, shovel, McLeod, ax, chainsaw.
  • Fire suppression tactics such as line construction and lopping using hand tools. Hose lays, patrolling, monitoring, and mop-up operations.
  • Responsible for observing the rules of wildland firefighting safety.
  • Ensures own and others welfare and safety in all aspects of the assignments.
  • Cleans, maintains, stores and inventories firefighting tools and equipment.
  • Performs project work such as fuel inventory, preparing associated reports, and fuel reduction projects.

  • Invasive species removal via herbicide application or manual removal with tools or by hand

  • Tool cleaning and maintenance of McLeods, pickaxes, Pulaski’s, axes, saws, loppers, shovels, hoes, etc.
  • Hiking and walking up to 10+ miles a day to and from the worksite.
  • Living and Working in remote forest and desert areas, in backcountry camps and in adverse weather conditions such as in temperatures above 100 degrees or below freezing in wind and rain.
