Ryan Gober

Completed a PhD in Translational Neuroscience while working at the University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank (BEB) under the supervision of a committee composed of researchers and clinicians.

• Initiated and supported 3 scientific collaborations with internal partners at the BEB and KOLs at the Miami Project exploring inflammatory mechanisms in schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer's disease.
• Utilized human tissue to conduct translational research that helps connect pre-clinical findings with observations in human postmortem cohorts and living patients afflicted with psychiatric disorders
• Strong record of excellence in data analysis, visualization, and presentation of research findings at internal conferences (5) attended by both researchers and clinicians and external conferences (2) in front of researchers, clinicians, and external stakeholders in the biopharmaceutical industry resulting in several award winning presentations (4)
• Managed and trained a team of students and technicians tasked with extracting, organizing, and summarizing clinical histories of brain donors to assemble cohorts for research projects
• Initiated and managed an international collaboration with external scientists at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden resulting in a publication documenting novel findings of microglial changes in brains with schizophrenia
• Collaborated with the BEB Clinical Team to follow updates in IRB guidelines that affect the use of human postmortem tissue in biomedical research.
  

Participated in clinical shadowing at the University of Miami Neurology department and Jackson Memorial Behavioral Hospital following clinicians as they worked with patients presenting psychiatric and cognitive symptoms

• Gained insight into symptom presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of complex psychiatric disorders and the challenges healthcare providers (HCPs) face when treating individual patients
• Enhanced understanding of the specific unmet medical needs and challenges in treating patients that the biopharma industry should aim to address

The goal of the Canes Angel Network is to bridge the gap between founders and investors within the University of Miami alumni in order to help start-ups advanced past early stages

• Performed due diligence on University of Miami related early-stage startups working in fintech, healthtech, and biotech and presented key findings to the CAN advisory team
• Analyzed business models, team composition, proposed technology, addressable markets, competitive landscapes, and exit strategies of start-ups brought to the network by founding teams and entrepreneurs
• Provided founding teams with industry specific feedback from our diverse team of analysts composed of scientists, business students, and marketing experts
  

·Was awarded a training fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) working on projects focused on vascular and meningeal development

• Designed, developed, and managed 3 separate projects using zebrafish as a model organism to answer research questions in developmental biology and immunology related to meningeal development and aging processes that could be connected to neurodegenerative disorders
• Worked with cutting edge scientific techniques and data analysis platforms that are used for producing high impact research
• Presented research findings to scientific experts at internal conferences (2) as well as external stakeholders at regional conferences (3). In addition, I presented research updates and implications in the form of 2 hour talks to our collaborative research unit (4 lab groups) once every 3-4 months.
• Provided training to summer students and new research fellows on various techniques and helped them design and manage individual research projects

• Worked as a contract research technician on projects involving various electrochemical techniques
• Analyzed field data and generated summaries and presentations for clients which helped build effective communication and presentation skills

Conducted collaborative research on mitochondrial genetics in which I personally developed, managed, and completed a project for the lab to design an apparatus and corresponding SOP to test physiological stress
