• Ability to interact well with students, Positively interact with all students, students below grade-level and challenging students. I always strive to treat students with respect, and build relationships with each student, and provide equal opportunities for learning and building confidence. While working as an educator for Winfree Academy Charter School I taught students who had often been expelled from public school systems. The experience of working with challenging students was rewarding when I was able to inspire and motivate many of them to complete their education. I had many students that graduated and continued on to college. Several were first in their families to attend college.

I set high expectations for student performance and behavior. I have a broad spectrum of teaching experience ranging from teaching in small 1A public schools to teaching in large 5A districts. I am experienced in choosing and creating instructional materials to accommodate students at different levels. I am adept in creating learning plans with a scope and sequence that provides students with an adequate amount of time to master the performance expectations. I strive to create engaging lesson plans based on approved curriculum. I am experienced in creating and executing effective lesson plans for each class and able to customize learning plans to accommodate student learning styles and needs.

I routinely go beyond simple lectures and work to incorporate a variety of strategies, including non-traditional teaching strategies, to help students with multiple learning styles learn and stay engaged. I have worked with students to create biology labs and in classroom exhibits and experiments. I attend professional development sessions when opportunities exist and conduct research to learn new strategies and the latest best practice. Able strives to know each student beyond an instructional level to understand their interest and learning style to keep them focused and engaged. Before I started teaching in Bonham High School, Bonham Texas the percentage of students passing the Biology section of the TAKS test averaged 48%. I was able to increase that average to 73% in just my first year of teaching there. During my employment at Lindsay ISD my students had a 100% score rate on TAKS and 30% received a performance rating of 'commended'. Since 2009 my students have 100% pass rate and average 35% to 40% mastered.

I work to provide regular updates on student progress and immediately address any concerns that arise. Always communicate in a calm manner even with difficult parents and work towards decisions and solutions that are always in the best interest of the student.

I have led or participated in after school student activities including: Coaching baseball, spearheaded the development of a high school Bass Fishing Team at Ector High School, Ector Texas. Spent an extensive amount of personal time after hours and many weekends to coordinate student activities related to the school fishing team. Used personal resources to create opportunities for students. Students developed not only fishing skills but ethics, organizational skills and an appreciation for the outdoors and science. The program served to foster self-esteem in under-privileged youths.
