Work History

SRU and GDU Unit Process Engineer

Cenovus Energy
03.2023 - Current
  • Led process engineering reviews and execution the 2024 SRU TAR, stepped in as the lead for the 2024 GDU TAR, and led the process engineering deferral evaluations for the 2026 SRU and GDU TAR scope.
  • Improved the reliability of the BB Treater by leading troubleshooting team meetings, organizing a UOP Health check, systematically implementing solutions, and utilizing UOP for specialized inspections during TAR.
  • Drove improvements on the condensate systems at the SRU, troubleshooting equipment and communicating with vendors to save >$700k/year in condensate and reduce the risk of water hammer.
  • Coordinated the scope identification, engineering development, and cost estimation for Claus 1 air control upgrades to ensure reliability and compliance.

Coker Process Engineer

Cenovus Energy
08.2018 - 01.2024
  • Executed shutdowns as the lead Coker and Furnace Process Engineer for the 2018 TAR, Coker Walkdown Team leader and Commissioning Team for the 2019 Coker COF project, night shift contact for the 2021 TAR.
  • Strove for continuous improvement by leading an Instrumentation C.I. “Accelerator” team, by acting as a site Incident Investigator, by providing process conditions for post-COF equipment upgrades, and eliminating unit bottlenecks and instabilities.
  • Supported capital projects for the Blowdown drum, Clearwater Tank, Coke Handling, and Remote cutting projects; and acted as a small project engineer, developing scope, coordinating with engineering firms and vendors to ensure engineering was executed correctly, expediently, and within budget.

OM&S Process Engineer/M&E Coordinator

Husky Energy
01.2017 - 01.2020
  • Led small projects to pilot wireless instrumentation at Lima, install a temporary water line to ensure reliable hydrogen supply to the refinery, upgrade the ULSD product filters, and add a heater to the O&MS flare KO drum.
  • Supported operations by modelling the hydraulics of various systems, creating a KPI sheet, reducing corrosion chemistry usage.
  • Worked as the Energy Coordinator to learn and improve the energy model, attended the Husky Technical Information Exchange, performed furnace inspections and implemented recommended findings.
  • Drove to improve the mass balance at the refinery by improving the Hydrocarbon Loss Team’s model and by updating flow meter fluid properties.

Process Engineering Co-op

Husky Energy
01.2015 - 05.2015
  • Inspected vessel internals, supervised change-out of catalyst reactors, and acted as provisional department contact during 2016 plant-wide turnaround.
  • Obtained catalyst cost information and forecasted future expense estimates to assist capital planning.
  • Implemented an alarm reporting software as part of the Process Safety Team.
