Roles And Responsibilities

  • Reading blueprints in order to determine weld location, weld size, allowable weld process and the proper order to make each weld.
  • Read weld procedures (WPS) so that the weld is made according to code.
  • Use pipe fitter tools in order to maintain proper lengths when dealing with weld shrinkage. (exp. Read blueprint to find length of a nozzle, and once the root has been welded use a tape measure to determine shrinkage.) In my experience weld shrinkage occurs more heavily when dealing with stainless steels.
  • Work with a weld engineer to qualify weld procedures(PQR).
  • Overlay welding with Electroslag, Stick, Tig and SAW
  • Look at inspection test plans (ITP) and understand NDEs such as X-rays(RT), Dye penetrant tests(PT), fluorescent wet mag, dry mag(MT),Phased Array(PAUT), and ultrasonic tests(UT) in order to make weld repairs when needed.

  • 1st place in the State of Texas which got me flown out to Louisville, Kentucky in order to compete in a National competition.
