• Design steel structures for industrial clients including buildings, pipe bridges, and miscellaneous support structures.
• Recent notable building designs include the assembly and finishing plant buildings for Scout Motors in South Carolina consisting of over 15,000 tons of steel and a processing facility for a large semiconductor manufacturer requiring an in depth modal analysis and special concentrically braced framing system.
• Produce designs for shallow foundations and pile supported mats and footings
• Design connections for structural steel members and anchoring to reinforced concrete
• Communicate with and lead structural designers in development of construction drawings including connection design
• Coordinate with steel fabricators and check shop drawings for compliance with structural design
• Manage responses to all RFIs on assigned projects
• Utilize time effectively on multiple projects and efficiently change focus between projects as required by schedule and client needs

Responsibilities include those of "Design Engineer" in addition to:

• Manage projects effectively to deliver finished work on time on projects of highest complexity and difficulty
• Spearheaded use of more robust engineering software (RISA3D, RISAFloor, RISAConnection) to supplement proprietary in house software on more complex projects
• Maintain professional licenses through continuing education via online lectures and attending professional conferences
• Mentor junior engineers and new hires to better improve competency and efficiency of all staff
• Oversee production of and provide professional seal for fabrication and erection drawings of junior engineers
• Check design calculations of other team members for accuracy

• Produce structural designs for pre-engineered metal buildings
• Adhere to local, state and federal structural design requirements as well as International Building Code and ASCE 7-05/ASCE 7-10 design requirements
• Coordinate with professionals of other disciplines, including architects and foundation engineers
• Consult with clients to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structures and recommended adaptations and modifications to improve structural efficiency
• Coordinate with draftspersons and technicians to transform designs to working drawings for production and building erection
