As a corporal in the Marine Corps I was charged with leading teams of marines through a multitude of tasks. Some of my proudest achievements during my time as an active duty marine are.
While deployed to the Philippines in support of a multinational exercise, I planned and lead nearly daily tactical convoys through a metropolitan area populated with civilians and their vehicles. To accomplish this I had to coordinate with local Philippine national policemen sometimes numbering over 100, my Philippine Marine counterparts, as well as the local and federal Philippine government. In order to receive their guidance, and to coordinate a quick reaction force in the case that something were to happen with the convoy. in order to accomplish this, I had multiple 24 hour periods where I never left work, had to quickly learn the basics of the Tagalog language in order to better communicate in case I didn't have my interpreter, and be hyper vigilant while the convoy was moving to ensure the safety of my 8 vehicles, 36 marines, weapons, and ultimately the local Filipino civilians.
During a period where I was the only marine rated in small arms repair in the entire battalion, I personally got the units weapons to full combat effectiveness. Single handedly documenting, and inducting each weapon into the Marine Corps repair process. ordering the parts required. coordinating with our local supply warehouse on the parts approval, shipping, and pick up. Then Installing the parts ordered. Ultimately I repaired dozens of rifles, 6 shotguns, 2 light machine guns, 4 heavy machine guns, and a grenade machine gun. Completing this workload alone nearly 50 percent faster than what was expected than if I had a full team helping me.
While acting as a machine gun team leader during a training exercise, I led a team of 4 other marines and 2 heavy machine guns. while conducting a combat patrol that would lead us to a point where we would assault an enemy stronghold. our element was ambushed, quickly reacting to the situation I led my team to quickly deploy our machine guns to repel the enemy ambush. our guns were vital in repelling the enemy, then while coordinating with the other squads. we pushed into the enemy positions ultimately the enemy that engaged us was wiped out as a result of my teams quick reaction, and coordination with other squads.
