Reduction of Unnecessary Respiratory Viral Panel (RVP) Testing, Staten Island University Hospital, 06/01/25- 06/01/26

I contributed to a quality improvement initiative aimed at reducing unnecessary RVP orders by 30% over 6 months. We implemented targeted testing strategies (COVID-19, Influenza, RSV) in appropriate clinical scenarios to replace full RVP panels. Responsibilities included educating residents and hospitalists, sending periodic reminders, and assisting in the creation of a decision-making algorithm to guide appropriate RVP ordering. This initiative reduced unnecessary testing and aimed to reduce hospital costs.
