Senior Design Project – Blue Hydrogen to Improve the Atmosphere, 09/01/23, 12/01/23, Designed a process to produce hydrogen through auto-thermal reforming conversion while sequestering the carbon byproduct. Performed material balances and in-depth analysis of needs; simulated process and generated equipment list/sizing on ASPEN. Performed research on and modeled carbon sequestration via MEA and cryogenic distillation in ASPEN. Evaluated different separation and heat integration processes to maximize the return on investment. Calculated capital costs, operating costs, maintenance costs, and revenue for complete model. Wrote a complete FEL 2 report including a detailed economic analysis of 20 years of operation with an uncertainty-based analysis, generating a probabilistic distribution of outcomes.
