I am a first-year student and DVM candidate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine. My long-term goal is to become a veterinarian, and while I keep an open mind, my current interests are in small animal general practice and shelter medicine.
My main responsibilities included providing care for patients and supporting staff through proper animal restraint, administering medication and treatments as directed by veterinarians, assisting with diagnostic procedures, maintaining a clean and properly stocked environment, and liaising with clients.
My main responsibilities included regular empathetic and effective communication with clients and the general public, scheduling appointments, processing transactions, maintaining a clean lobby and reception space, and transporting animals.
I shadowed Dr. Glidden in the summer of 2021. I witnessed various surgeries, dental procedures, diagnostics, physical examinations, and treatments. I also practiced some skills such as animal handling, filling prescriptions, prepping vaccines, and lab techniques all under the supervision of a veterinarian.
I volunteered as a teacher’s assistant from ages 10 to 18 and as a teacher from ages 18 to 23 in my church. My responsibilities included caring for, entertaining, and teaching children during Sunday service. I mainly worked with toddlers, but I have also worked with month-old babies to 6th graders.
As a cashier and line cook, my main responsibilities included working with a team to provide efficient and quality services, handling transactions, providing quality customer service, preparing meals, and maintaining a clean space.
