I am a PhD candidate specializing in substance abuse research within the group of Cornelius Gati at USC's Bridge Institute. Specifically, my projects delve into the structure-function relationships of opioid receptors with the long-term view to improve clinical outcomes from novel analgesics. I have over five years of cumulative experience in various facets of protein production and single-particle cryo Electron-Microscopy, wholistically geared towards clinically relevant projects.
• Pursued the Cryo-EM structure of a nanodisc incorporated integral membrane histidine kinase within a two component sensory system in S. aureus.
• Determined the crystal structures of two isoforms of a voltage gated potassium channel along with their hetero-complex stoichometries through X-ray Crystallography, Small Angle X-ray Scattering and Multi Angle Light Scattering.
• Pursued the potential application of a hydrophobic protein as a sacrificial coating in samples applied to Cryo-EM grids to prevent denaturation and preferred orientation at the air-water interface.
• Investigated the retro-grade trafficking of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein using Bio-Layer Interferometry and X-ray Crystallography.
• Determined the first high resolution crystal structure of the catalytic core of calpain-5; a calcium activated cysteine protease implicated in Autosomal Dominant Neovascular Inflammatory Vitreoretinopathy
