Excelence Performance Award from Montgomery College

Recommendation for
2025 Montgomery College Outstanding Staff Award
I am pleased to write this recommendation for the 2025 Montgomery College Outstanding Staff Award for my dear colleague, Mr. Saleh Ahmed, who is currently working as the Instructional Lab Coordinator in the Chemical and Biological Sciences Department at Germantown Campus. He has been working here in the lab since 2013.
Though I can certainly write pages after pages to support this recommendation, in brief, I will say that Mr. Ahmed is a truly dedicated and extraordinary staff deserving of this recognition. He checks off all the needed requirements for this award, and even goes beyond. It makes it easy for me to write without hesitation that the purpose of this award to celebrate and recognize staff that exemplify and sustain exceptional performance will be well served if Mr. Saleh Ahmed is the recipient of this award for this year.
I know Mr. Ahmed well enough because he has been taking care of Biology labs, especially the Anatomy and Physiology labs, for both BIOL 212 and BIOL 213, both of which I regularly teach, and I have coordinated both courses for many years. He takes care of BIOL 131 as well. Among the various roles he has played for the smooth operation of these labs include:
• Properly set up the labs and update all lab prep sheets with pictures.
• Take special care of preserved materials (Sheep brain, hearts, Blood-kits etc.)
• Organize and update all lab materials like microscopes, histological slides, models, plaques. clean all labs after each lab class. Worked in other labs too (BIOL 101L, 150L, 210L, 106 etc.)
• Maintain a flexible schedule, including working Saturday’s labs.
• Provides excellent customer service to students
• Supports instructors’ needs, especially adjunct instructors
• Pays special attention for lab safety, including Bio-Hazardous materials and proper biological waste disposal on time.
• Organized SDS and keeping those safe and accessible in a SDS binder in A&P prep room
• Attends all college level and campus level meetings, and completes all required training including Equity and Inclusion training, Safety workshop. anti-Muslim Discrimination WorkshopIslamophobia etc.
• Participates in many Professional Development activities
• Volunteers in many activities to provide the needed help, like helping immigrant students with admissions, welcoming community kids etc.
• And many other
It is true that Mr. Ahmed has continuously strived for improvements. He is always looking for ways in which he can help students to learn better, help instructors so that they do not run into any problems while conducting their labs, help order stuff for the labs and keep these well-organized. He walks outside the lab when they are in session just in case an instructor may need something. He sometimes even walks into the lab and asks if everything is going well or if he help in some way.
Mr. Ahmed certainly shows exceptional performance by continually exceeding expectations of his position, performing at an exceptional level beyond position requirements, and I recognize his important and significant contributions to our Biology unit/department/area.
He certainly cares for students and provides them with exceptional service behind the scenes, which influences student success or satisfaction.
Mr. Ahmed has become such an integral part of our lives here that I could not even imagine working effectively without his support.
I recommend Mr. Saleh Ahmed whole-heartedly for the 2025 Montgomery College Outstanding Staff Award and wish him all the very best in his career.
In my humble opinion, this Award is actually overdue to him.
