Summary

I am a caring, concerned former educator who firmly believes in public education. I am well-versed in the science of reading and am a strong believer in a phonics-based reading program. I have worked with the ACS curriculum this year.

I will continue to do my best to help close the achievement gap that has plagued our schools for several years. I closely monitor my student's progress while implementing techniques into daily practices that meet each student's individual needs by using various phonetic activities to increase their reading skills.

I was able to develop a strong bond with my students this year and they were always enthusiastic to come work with me. I appreciate each child as an individual who is capable of success.

  • Since retiring, I have been a trained tutor with Read to Succeed and worked with a 1st grade student all year (Oct 2022-May2023) At the end of the year he was on or above grade level
  • I also volunteered this year in one of the kindergarten classes at Jones and worked with both the highest readers and the struggling readers, so that each student could progress at their own level This was my own initiative because one of the teachers had a very challenging class and needed some extra help
  • This summer, I volunteered as a tutor at the Hill Street Learning Center (This was my own initiative) I worked with a student who will be entering 3rd grade She had an IEP and required a lot of patience and intense focus Unfortunately, her family car broke down, so I didn't get to finish my work with her, but I do feel we made progress and she got much needed review
  • I have been working with a phonics program, in addition to the ACS phonics program, and it has proven to be a great adjunct to that program
