  • The project’s purpose is to recommend best management practices, or mitigation strategies, that will decrease the stormwater trash flux into the lake.
  • Community outreach and awareness was a focal point of the contribution to this year’s report. StoryMaps was created with the use of Esri.
  • Help the GIS team create detailed maps of the area of study.
  • Utilized strong communication abilities during presentations which led to increased understanding among colleagues regarding project goals and objectives.

Accomplishments

The 2022 Lake Hiawatha Litter Report was written by Samuel Gutierrez, an Urban Scholar who was hired by the City of Minneapolis. The focus of the report is to address the issue of trash entering Lake Hiawatha through the stormwater system. The project’s purpose is to recommend best management practices, or mitigation strategies, that will decrease the stormwater trash flux into the lake. This report was presented to the city council of Minneapolis.
