• Company Overview: Acute Respiratory and General Medical Ward
• Precepted and mentored new staff, graduate registered nurses and ancillary staff
• Run the ward on a day to day basis in the absence of the Ward Sister.
• Manage patients with tracheostomies and laryngectomies daily
• Managing patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions such as Asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, and Types 1 and 2 Respiratory Failure
• Interpretation of blood gases.
• Setting up patients on acute and domiciliary BIPAP or CPAP when indicated; currently managing acutely ill COVID positive patients on CPAP and High Flow Oxygen Therapy
• Built and maintained strong working relationships between the nursing department and other disciplines
• Managing patients with general medical conditions such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Kidney and Liver ailments and anemia
• Administered blood and blood products and monitored for reactions closely.
• Monitor and treat medical emergencies such as Hypoglycaemia, DKA, HHS, Hyper/Hypokalemias, and Cardiac Arrhythmias
• Detect signs and symptoms of Sepsis using Sepsis 6 and escalate when need be
• Facilitated patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Assisted doctors in performing bedside, non-invasive procedures such as chest/tube insertions.
• Completed clinical tasks while adhering to defined policies and procedures
• Managed patients with Enteral Conditions hence have experience with Nasogastric Tubes, Naso Jejunal Tubes, Gastrostomies and TPN, as well as a stoma (colostomy and ileostomy care)
• Insertion of Indwelling Urethral Catheters and management of Suprapubic Catheters
• Educated patients and caregivers on discharge instructions to maintain a continuum of care.

Acute Pulmonary and General Medical Ward

• Duties were the same Unit Supervisor duties without the Managerial Roles.

During my time as a nurse in the Pediatric Ward

• I scheduled pediatric admission and discharges
• Checked and recorded vital signs and escalated when appropriate.
• Managed preterm, term and post-term babies with conditions such as hypoglycaemia, meconium aspiration, neonatal pathological and physiological jaundice, among others, both in NICU and on the ward
• Educating new mothers on the benefits and proper techniques of breastfeeding
• Aseptic cord care for newborns
• Feeding babies both orally or via Nasogastric or Oral feeding tubes
• Physical assessment of the newborn.

• Monitored pregnant clients with minor and major ailments such as infections, hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, Gestational Diabetes etc
• Monitored fetal well-being using cardiotocography auscultating fetal heart rates
• Assisted midwives in deliveries
• Assessing and managing physiological and pathological jaundice of babies.
